Jannes and Jambres, tut tut tut….who are these men I’ve often wondered. Jannes and Jambres tut tut tut…..they opposed Moses, I muttered disapprovingly.
The text for today is taken from 2 Timothy 3 Verses 1 to 9. This scripture starts with teaching about the end times. Men shall be lovers of their own selves, envious, boasters, proud, God abusers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, promise breakers, false accusers, showing lack of self control, fierce, despisers of those that are good, betrayers, impulsive /rash/ hot headed(heady), high-minded (arrogant), lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God, having a form of Godliness (Godliness –observing the teachings of God), but denying the power of the very Godliness they observe in some form or another.
We are then instructed as Christians to TURN AWAY from these things!!!!!.
Listen when God says turn……..we don’t argue or reason……. my friend….we do a turner and run.
Remember Sodom and Gomorrah and the pillar of salt story. (Google it and see what comes up)
Jannes and Jambres identity is not revealed in the books relating to Moses. I searched and couldn’t find them. They are compared to the end time characteristics listed above. Then the penny dropped. Jannes and Jambres identity has not been directly revealed because they are not a past tense pair of men. They were at the time of Moses, and at the time of Jesus and now here with us. The spirit of Jannes and Jambres is what the Lord is trying to show us here. Not necessarily the fleshly persons of Jannes and Jambres but the spirit behind them and may I say a twin spirit cos they were two together.
Moses was a deliverer and every believer has a Moses like calling on their lives. Called apart to set people free from the yoke of sin. Mark 16:15-18. But these two men (men in agreement) therefore very purposeful and powerful opposed Moses. Simply put they tried to prevent the Israelites from getting delivered.
Jesus came to set the captives free, but guess who opposed him and eventually killed him……..
The Prophets, Judges, Kings of God came to set people free and to deliver them..think of Samson, Saul and Moses but guess who opposed and weakened them. The answer to Moses is evident.
Now Jesus has gone to be with the Father and supervising us through the Holy Spirit from above, but guess who is trying to weaken and oppose us from carrying out our deliverance mission.
Lots wife was getting delivered but guess who warmed their way into her heart and managed to work on her and get her to look back. In case we haven’t noticed she was on the way to getting delivered but she never made it cos Jannes and Jambres together showed up.
Perhaps lots wife is described in verses 6 and 7 of today’s text….silly woman, laden with sins… remember every weight of sin…(Heb 12:1-3) (please read this as it ties into today’s text) laying aside every weight of sin looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…..she looked to Sodom and not Jesus….led away with divers lust…..she yearned for the good old Sodom and Gomorrah days….
Lots wife will form the topic of another blog but the main thing to remember today is that the twin Spirit of Jannes and Jambres tried to get Moses, tried to get Jesus and is trying to get us. Brethren God says turn away. Don’t be like Lots wife.
There we have it,Jannes and Jambres is a present continuous spirit still largely at work today and we must identify them through the bad fruits described above…pride, betrayers, lovers of self, disobedient, God abusers and so on……….and turn. Simply TURN AWAY!!
